The Quest for 8K at 60FPS: Which Smartphones Can Actually Handle Ultra-High-Definition Video?
For years, mobile videography has advanced at a breakneck pace. We have moved from pixelated 720p clips to crisp, cinematic 4K at silky-smooth frame rates. Naturally, the tech world’s eyes turned toward the next big frontier: 8K resolution (7680 x 4320 pixels).
While a handful of flagship smartphones have supported 8K recording at 30fps since around 2020, a specific question lingers for power users and mobile creators: Can any phone record 8K at 60fps?
The State of 8K Mobile Video Today
To understand 8K phone video, it helps to separate marketing hype from hardware capability.
For several generations, top-tier Android flagships—such as Samsung’s Galaxy Ultra series and various high-end Chinese flagships powered by top-tier Qualcomm Snapdragon and MediaTek chips—have offered 8K video recording capped at 30fps.
While 8K/30fps provides an incredible level of detail (packing roughly 33 megapixels per frame, making it a dream for cropping or pulling ultra-high-res photos out of video), 30fps can often feel jittery or less fluid for fast-moving action compared to standard 4K at 60fps.
